Under the supervision of the Environmental Officer, explains exhibits, distributes bulletins, pamphlets, and other informational materials designed to acquaint the general public with Bayside Center exhibits and programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides information to the public in person and over the phone; hands out information pamphlets; takes registrations for programs; assists in the work involved in collecting, compiling, and tabulating statistical and other information including the guest book; performs other related duties as required.
Experience: One (1) year of experience in work involving the collection, analysis, and dissemination of information in the field of news media and/or public relations, publicity, and/or advertising.
Knowledge of: Methods and techniques involved in collecting and analyzing factual data and its interpretation and publication through the media of print, radio, and television; rules, regulations, policies, procedures, programs, and methods of the department and their application to specific cases after a period of training; modern public information and advertising techniques and devices; the conventions and the form and style required for press releases for print, radio, and television; the sources from which significant information may be obtained
Ability to: prepare and assist in preparing informative articles and news releases for publication via the media of print, radio, and television; review and edit written material and to proofread copy; give talks before groups of varied ages; promote cooperation the aims of the department; utilize available media for the dissemination of news and information; maintain essential records and files; learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units; read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. Must be willing to learn information regarding all exhibits.
Tools and Equipment Used:
Telephone; VCR; Microscope; Telescope.
Position requires employee to: Continuously talk and hear; frequently stand, walk, and sit; and occasionally use hands to finger, handle, or feel, climb a staircase, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 10 lbs. Specific vision requirements: Close, distance, and ability to adjust focus. Employee must have the ability to open and close windows.
Position requires employee to: Primarily works indoors and occasionally works outdoors in heat and humidity. Bayside Center is not air-conditioned. Windows may be opened and fans run as needed. Except for voices, the typical noise for the work environment is quiet. Employees may occasionally be required to change work hours or work beyond normal quitting time.
