Responsible for administering the fire protection subcode of the State Uniform Construction Code within the concerned jurisdiction; inspects and/or supervises the inspection of construction projects under way to ensure that compliance with plans and specification for Fire protection approved in accord with State Uniform Construction Code is achieved; does other related duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties include plan review, inspections, issuance of UCC required notifications, complaint investigation, computer entries, and communication with property owners and contractors. Inspects new and existing buildings and structures to ensure compliance with the State Uniform Construction Code and enforces same to ensure public safety, health, and welfare; does related work as required.
Examines plans for new structures to ensure compliance with building subcodes. Inspects construction jobs, checks quality and amount of work completed, and resolves construction problems.
Enforces rules and regulations regarding fire protection subcodes. Initiates legal action and testifies against violators of fire protection subcodes. Prepares essential reports. Establishes and maintains essential records and files.
Applicants must have a Class 1 (HHS) Fire Protection Technical License, and a Subcode Official Administrative License issued by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs. Three years experience and licensing in other Subcode areas preferred.

Position requires employee to:
>2/3 of on the job time - Talk or hear to communicate with co-workers and the public in person and over the phone. Hear fire alarm signals
1/3 - 2/3 of on the job time - Stand on concrete, 6-16 inch beams, and flat and pitched roofs Walk up to 500 ft. at a time up to ½ mile per day
<1/3 of on the job time - Sit while driving a car and in a chair Use hands to finger, handle, or feel Climb 18-foot ladders Balance on beams Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in attics, under homes, and in confined areas Reach with hands and arms to climb ladders and testing smoke detectors Lift and carry a short distance, plans and cases of copy paper weighing up to 10 lbs. Lift and carry up to 20 feet, archival records and a stepladder weighing 11 - 25 lbs. Lift boxes of archival records weighing 26 - 50 lbs.
Special vision requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Position requires employee to:
1/3 - 2/3 of on the job time - Work in outdoor weather conditions such as sun, heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, and flooding.
<1/3 of on the job time - Work in an inside office environment Work near moving mechanical parts from construction equipment Work in high precarious places such as roofs, joists, and beams Be exposed to fumes and airborne particles
